March 28th 2020 – There’s a deserted island 1km off the coast of our resort. When the tide is low you can walk there, so we took social isolation to extreme levels and went where there were no humans at all. :-O
It’s day 11 of the Siargao Island Philippines Lockdown. The whole world is going through one of the strangest periods of our lifetime and it has got us thinking. Is the majority of the human race capable of caring for themselves anymore? How many of us can find clean drinking water, forage for edible food, hunt, grow or create useful homemade products to care for ourselves.
Many of us have forgotten how to sew, or never learned about fabric. Almost no one we know could build a solid shelter or light a fire. If services were to shut down, what skills should we be learning now?
As we sat on the deserted island looking for shells we took a moment to evaluate ourselves and we both feel there is huge room for improvement. We need to speed up our plans to be more self sufficient!
For now we are going to upload a daily video diary of the Siargao Island Lockdown scenario. This is day 11. Our regular family travel vlogs will resume publishing later.
