One of the quickest & easiest ways to make your own homemade Houmous, which is of course, Vegan, healthy & perfect for dipping carrot sticks, filling crusty rolls or if anything like me, just eating straight from the spoon!

What Goes In:

500g Tinned Chickpeas
100g Sesame Seeds
200ml Chickpea Liquid (aquafaba)
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
1/2 tsp Sea Salt
Juice of 1/2 Lemon
Optional ingredients:
1/2 tsp of each to make different flavors of homemade houmous:
Paprika
Curry Powder
Chilli Flakes
Cracked Black Pepper

What To Do:

First step to making homemade houmous is to add the sesame seeds to a blender & pulse until they form a fine powder.
Then add the chickpeas into the blender along with all the other ingredients.
Blend well until all combined into smooth ‘houmousy’ texture.
This may take a couple of minutes depending on the power of your blender.

This is a very basic recipe to make a simple, tasty homemade houmous, that easily rivals the shop bought tubs .
If you want to jazz up this easy houmous, you can try toasting the sesame seeds before adding to the blender, or add in a couple tablespoons of olive oil for extra creaminess.

A nice way to serve this easy houmous is pour into a bowl & top with a sprinkle of sesame seeds, a pinch of paprika (or chilli powder) for a splash of colour & a drizzle of olive oil. A plate of veggie sticks on the side such as cucumber, carrot & bell peppers is a classic accompliment to delicious houmous, perfect for dipping, along with some bread sticks or spread the houmous straight onto crusty bread.

This houmous recipe is a family favorite & we always have a batch of this in the fridge, ready for easy lunches & snacks.

      Yes we used to make ours with lots of Olive oil too, but found the Chickpea liquid worked very well as an alternative. Much less oily of course 😀
