A great place to stop to & refresh, The White Cup Cafe on the road to Chiang Rai
With each visa run or journey up to Chiang Rai we have done in our 10 months of living in Chiang Mai, it has sent us past the White Cup Café. Un miss-able from the main 118 road due to the giant white coffee mug complete with steam sitting by the side of the road.

It’s a great place to stop if you are heading towards Mae Sai on a visa run with your own transport. The view is quite spectacular and you can’t forget you’re in North Thailand when you are surrounded by scenery like that just from the side of the road!
We would be hard pushed to find a road side café with these kind of views in England!
The giant swing outside the café is my favorite feature, along with the tasty hot cocoa, I know what you’re thinking, who drinks hot cocoa in Thailand, that’s reserved for cold and snowy winter nights..…well, I do people!
We have stopped here a few times now, both on our own and also with Jmayel’s parents, heading up to show them the White and Black temples of Chiang Rai, Wat Rong Khun and Baan Dam.
Then yet again with his brother Kamal and Michelle on their visit, this time taking them across the border with us on our last visa run, so Kam could get a Burmese stamp in his passport and touch foot in the mother land.
The White Cup Café is just under half way from Chiang Mai to Chaing Rai on the 118 and a nice café to stop for a coffee and a break on the drive up to Chiang Rai.
