April 3rd 2020 – Today is Day 17 of Community Lockdown on the Island of Siargao Philippines. We just got news that we lost a close family member to the virus. This has gone from a challenging situation to a really scary one. Before today we have felt quite disconnected from the severity of what we see on the news, but now the full weight of things has hit us hard.
Today’s video was really hard to make, because in a daily video diary you feel obliged to document the events that move you. This loss of family is not something we wanted to try to hide. We think it is important to express how our feelings are effecting our decision making during this global pandemic crisis.
For the family of J’s first cousin, we want you to know that we are thinking of you way out here on this almost deserted island. We wish we could be there to offer condolences in person, but we know that even if we were on the same soil we could not hug or touch due to this ongoing invisible war that we are facing right now. Stay strong.
Moving forward we want to try to stay as positive as possible and tomorrow we will strive to keep our heads high and make the most of our current situation. There are still many unknowns out there and none of us know how this pandemic is going to truly effect the future.
For now we are going to upload a daily video diary of the Siargao Island Lockdown scenario. This is day 17. Our regular family travel vlogs will resume publishing later.
