Someone asked if we were paying too much after we shared the cost of a meal last week. Which made us ask the question is the Philippines more expensive for foreigners than it is for locals? Are restaurants handing out different menus?
Today we share our ‘day out’ cost of living expenses in a raw and simple way. We wanted to show you the kind of prices we encounter on a regular day while eating in a local restaurant, visiting tourist attractions and going to an Atelier (A.T.E In Burgos) to have custom fabrics produced for our new home on Siargao Island.
We have been on the island for 6 months now and made friends with local people, we have dined together in restaurants and taken boat trips to islands and we have not once encountered a dual pricing policy here for foreigners vs locals. This is referring specifically to our time in Siargao where things are quite different from the research we’ve done on the other islands around the Philippines.
Siargao is unique and has a melting pot of cultures that want different things. There are vegan restaurants and places that cater for artisan desires and for those privileges you do pay more. But you can still eat cheap and live cheap on this island. We know that for a fact.
We intend to do more cost of living videos as we live here for longer. But for now enjoy this snippet of our little paradise in north Siargao Island.
This is the start of our story. Our ‘New Normal’ and new future. We are moving to the Philippines for a new start and this is day 45 of our Philippines Daily Vlog which will document what life is like for a British Family trying to work out life in this very exotic and beautiful country.
Our names are Jmayel, Sacha & Story. We traveled to Siargao island with Jmayel’s mum & Story’s grandma just before the Global pandemic that sent the whole planet into quarantine. We got stranded for over 3 months and fell in love with island life, now we want to make that life more permanent.
